About the KCA

BACKGROUND
When arts education in schools was threatened by proposed legislation in 1997, a crisis-in-the-making was successfully derailed by arts educators, parents and children, community arts board members and arts activists. State legislators recognized anew the strength and number of Kansas citizens who were committed to the arts in our state.

In order to move from a position of reacting to developments already taking place in the State Legislature and the State Board of education, arts leaders began efforts to establish a sustainable, proactive plan that would allow Kansas arts advocates to positively influence policy discussions at local, state, and national levels. Thus, the Kansas Citizens for the Arts, dedicated to promoting the interests of the citizens of Kansas through advocacy for arts funding and education, was formed.
